News Flash

It is indeed possible to have too much chocolate.

I know, I didn't think so either.

I am in the midst of making 37 chocolate layer cakes. I have had more chocolate cake batter and frosting than I can stand.

In other news, it is snowing! I am here beside my fireplace updating some new outstanding specials on www.wildtraveldeals.com and www.legacytravel.com

It isn't snowing in Mexico!

Books I'm Either Reading or Have Recently Read

The Innocent Man by John Grisham. I bought this book at London Gatwick Airport before boarding my Dallas bound flight. I don't normally read alot of "not useful" books, but I was about to be on a plane for about 10 hours, so I needed something to pass the time. I really enjoyed it and recently passed it on to my sister who lives in the area where the events in the book actually took place.

Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking By Malcolm Gladwell. A few months ago I read his other recent publication, The Tipping Point. The concepts in these books fascinate me. Blink is about how we many times instantly know things without knowing how we know it (or sometimes even that we know it).

Book I'm reading now:
Call to Action By Bryan and Jeffrey Eisenberg. This book is about improving conversion rates with your website. Riveting stuff.

Next book I'll read
Waiting For Your Cat to Bark?Again, by the Brothers Eisenberg. This is another marketing type book. With such a clever title I can't wait to read it.

From the Mouths of Babes

Our son attends "Primer". Primer is an extra year of school between Kindergarten and First Grade for those that need extra time to mature before moving on.

Yesterday he brought home a book made in class. Each page featured something that a Primer student wants the world to know.

Take a look at what these 6 year olds want us to know:

"Respect others or you will have your feelings hurt one day."

"All fighting people should stop because babies might get hurt."

"Being nice to others is more important than being the boss of them."

"Everyone should drink water or your face will get crunched."

My favorite?

"Life is good - enjoy."

Things look different when you're moving slower

You probably already know that I'm a runner. This morning I elected to run, rather than drive, to a regular Monday morning meeting I attend. I've driven there many many times over the last five years with no trouble. The meeting is not far from my home.

I found it quite interesting that I was less sure of my way than usual. Because I was moving more slowly on my feet rather than in a car, everything looked different. I noticed different things because I was moving by them more slowly. The streets were the same, but my perspective was different.

I did find my way just fine, but I so enjoyed noticing things that I normally zip right by. As we embark on this Holiday Season 2006, I hope I can remember to slow down and see things you normally miss.

I hope you can too.

She's Baaaack (Again) !

I'm back from Cozumel!

It was a fabulous time. The Park Royal Cozumel did a fabulous job hosting us. The food and service was fantastic. I enjoyed the people I went with a great deal.

I saw the following hotels:

Hotel Cozumel
El Cozumeleno
Cozumel Palace
Park Royal Cozumel (our host hotel)
Reef Club Cozumel (including the new Sabor and Aura sections under construction)
Allegro Cozumel by Occidental
Grand Occidental Cozumel
Hotel Presidente Intercontinental

Really, there isn't a bad place to stay in Cozumel. Each property does a good job at what they do. There are choices in each price category and for each taste. The people in Cozumel are as friendly as ever and as eager to welcome you to their island and show you a good time.

I'll post more details in the coming days, but I just wanted to let you know I'm home.

More Later.

Playing Around....

I spent just a few minutes making this masthead last night. I didn't get very elaborate because I just wanted to mess with configuring it here in Blogger.

I'm no Dooce, but it will work for now.

...and now I'm off to Cozumel!

I've been home long enough (10 days, right?) so its time for me to get another stamp on my Passport. (Speaking of passports, have you gotten yours yet?)

A few of us have been invited to attend the Ribbon Cutting at the all new Park Royal Hotel in Cozumel. It has been under construction for quite some time and I can't wait to see it. It was a fairly moderate property previously, and not located directly on the beach. I'll let you know what I see. Stay tuned for pictures.

More Later.

Passports for Dummies

Unless you've been living under a rock, you know that on January 7, 2007 a passport will be required for all US Citizens to any non US destination.

It has been suggested to me that some people think that securing a passport is a confusing and difficult process. Nothing could be further from the truth. Here is a step by step guide to securing your very own US Passport.

1) Get your picture taken. If you want to go the cheap route, get it done at our office. Our price is only $5.00 for the set of two pictures required. If you want to go the easy route, have your picture taken right at the passport office. It's more expensive, but does not require an extra stop in your day. Don't go thinking you can take your own picture at home and cut it to the right size and expect them to accept it. The US State Department has very specific guidelines pertaining to the composition, size and exposure of the picture, among other things. Just spend the $5.00. It will be quicker.

2) Fill out your passport application. The friendly folks at the US State Department have made things easy on you. Simply access this online passport application, input the information, and print out a nice clean crisp copy that you can take with you to the passport office. There are no tricky questions on the application. Everything on there you will probably know already. (With the possible exception of the years of your parent's births. Find that out if you don't already know.)

3. Find your birth certificate. This might be the trickiest part for some folks. If you were lucky blessed enough to have been born in the Great State of Texas, you can simply walk in to any county clerk's office and get a copy. It does not have to be the county in which you were born. The county clerks in Texas utilize a statewide system. Here in Collin County, the county clerk's office and the passport office are next door to each other. How convenient!

4. Take your checkbook and your drivers license and go turn in your passport application. My recommendation is to go to a passport office and turn it in. You can also turn it in at most post offices and some other locations. Here is a list of those locations. You'll have to write a couple of different checks and they will total something like $97.00. Relax. The passport is valid for 10 years, that averages to less than $10.00 per year. You spend more than that on Starbucks in a month.

5. Go home and wait by the mailbox. In about six short weeks, your passport will arrive safely in the mail and you will be free once more to roam about the planet.

Now there, wasn't that easy?

My Favorite Part of Any Trip.....

.....is coming home.

And, when you consider what I have to come home to you really can't blame me.
